Are you afraid of bugs?
Tiny Locals is a project dedicated to revealing the fascinating facts and stories of Aotearoa’s unique and beautiful insect population.
As young people spend less time outdoors, many become less familiar with the creatures that share our planet. This unfamiliarity can lead to fear and disgust, making it harder to protect the insects vital to our ecosystems. Insects pollinate our food, recycle waste, and support countless other species, yet they’re often overlooked in conservation efforts. Tiny Locals aims to change that by turning fear into curiosity and sparking appreciation for our important little neighbours.
Through approachable illustration and storytelling, the project highlights the hidden stories of insects, encouraging people to look closer and appreciate the world around them.
As a designer, I’m passionate about illustration and storytelling, and I love finding creative ways to make complex ideas accessible. I’ve always been fascinated by insects, and through Tiny Locals, I hope to share that curiosity and wonder while exploring the intersection of design, nature, and empathy.
