visual communication design

Sam Weavers

I love listening to my parents and grandparents talk about the ‘good old days’. They used to get up to so much fun and mischief together in REAL LIFE™. These adventures grew them socially, responsibly, mentally and physically. Without the option of hiding behind a screen, they were forced to experience the world and grow.

My final project, ANALOG AFFINITY, aims to encourage REAL LIFE™ connection instead of digital connection. Using posters, cards, social media and videos, I want to disrupt the way 18-22 year olds see communication and show the benefits of face-to-face connection. This project uses humour, ironic instances, wit and nostalgia (90s and 2000s motifs) to romanticise everyday experiences such as talking to a love interest, calling someone to catch up, and hanging out with ya mates - inspiring my age group to take part in these situations more often.

As a designer and artist, I enjoy working with photography, videography, illustration and mixed media so that I can combine art with graphic design to get an outcome that is unique and engaging. This project reflects my belief that using storytelling and referencing the appropriate aesthetics can create a more meaningful connection between the design and the viewer.
