Kia ora e te whānau, nau mai, haere mai ki Hono.
Hono is a cultural reconnection app designed to bring reo, tikanga, and whakapapa into the rhythm of everyday life. Many Māori, myself included, know the quiet ache of distance from our language and culture. Opportunities to learn can feel scarce, and resources often sit outside the flow of our daily routines.
Hono aims to make cultural learning approachable, meaningful, and part of everyday life. The app offers gentle, practical steps for building confidence in te reo and understanding tikanga, while also encouraging users to explore their whakapapa and cultural roots. Hono is designed to be inviting and flexible, so anyone can engage at their own pace, fostering ongoing connection rather than isolated lessons.
I see design as a connector, a way to empower people, build relationships, and carry culture into everyday life. My philosophy is that design should not only look good but also hold meaning, strengthen identity, and invite participation.
