Thrift It

Thrift It is a Christchurch-based campaign designed to encourage younger generations to shop second-hand and explore their local op-shops. This project was inspired by my personal love of thrifting and the serendipitous experience that comes with browsing through unique preloved clothing. In a time of overconsumption and fast fashion, shopping second-hand is an easy and affordable way to do a little bit of good, both for the environment and ourselves. Not only does it reduce textile waste and pollution, but the process of thrifting is also mentally beneficial for the individual shopper. The Thrift It zine was designed to mirror the tactile joy of thrifting, with interactive elements that engage and inform the audience. A collectable set of clothing pins tie in with a map featured in the zine; each design is available at a different second-hand store around Christchurch, encouraging people to explore the local thrift scene and collect the full set. Thrift It celebrates second-hand shopping as more than just buying clothes; it’s a rewarding experience that allows for creativity and self-expression, all the while participating in a circular economy.
