SUBTRACT is a three-look capsule collection developed as a continuation of my internship with New Zealand fashion brand Taylor. Designed for the SS25/26 season, the collection explores how zero- to low-waste methods can sit within a refined, commercial context while remaining true to Taylor’s aesthetic and clientele.
The garments are made from deadstock silks and natural fibres, chosen for their quality, longevity, and luxurious hand feel. Natural dye pigments were used to achieve a muted, tonal palette that enhances the collection’s sculptural and editorial silhouettes. These material choices bring sustainability to the forefront without sacrificing elegance or wearability.
Grounded in circular design principles, SUBTRACT demonstrates how resourceful patternmaking can minimise waste while supporting pathways to production. Simplified patterns, minimal trims, and the use of readily available deadstock fabrics make the collection commercially viable. This approach also enables investment in local manufacturing, reinforcing the social and economic sustainability of New Zealand fashion.
SUBTRACT reflects a commitment to designing with intention, reducing excess, and showing how sustainability can be embedded into contemporary fashion practice.
