My collection is based on my internship at the Court Theatre, where I was given a design brief to design costumes for characters within a stage script. Based on the play ‘Our Town’ by Thornton Wilder, this collection tells the story of two young people navigating through the ups and downs of life. From daily life, to love and marriage and finally death and eternity. Stepping back in time, to a simpler place, the characters of Emily and George are brought to life through their costumes, using colour and detail to narrate the changes and emotions they experience. The costumes highlight the importance of ‘the little things’, the tiny simple details that slip by unnoticed. I love to explore visual narrative through costume design, and working with costume feels like it comes naturally. I like to use historical inspiration and symbolism in my design process when approaching the next costume.
