How can I show age in a positive light? I have painted a diptych of my mother capturing her in two eras. One, in her early twenties and the other as I see her now. The portraits also show objects that tell a story from her past and present. My goal has been to show that aging isn’t just about appearance and shouldn’t be seen as a negative part of life. Age isn’t just about keeping a youthful appearance; age comes with experiences, family, and achievements. I wanted to show the change and beauty that age can bring. I have appropriated a quote from a TikTok that connects a digital trend to the lived experience, "it's you, despite everything it’s still you”. As Frank Lloyd Wright has said, “the longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes".
