Motion Design

Lewis Crook

I’ve always had a fascination with the sci-fi genre. I grew up watching beloved series such as Doctor Who, Stargate and Star Trek. I’ve grown to really like the hard sci-fi aesthetic. This means taking a more grounded and scientifically accurate approach to storytelling. Coming from a 2D background, I’ve been interested in learning 3D programs such as Blender and Unreal Engine. For my final project I used them in my workflow to create a spaceship that can support human life over vast distances.  With this project I want to demonstrate the skills that I have gained from my time at Ara and add this project to my ever-expanding portfolio of work.

My final project is about a potential future where humanity has failed to combat climate change. Earth’s ecosystem is on the brink of collapse; Earth can no longer support humankind as it once did. The remnants of humanity are on a tight deadline to construct a ship capable of transporting humankind and the remaining species on Earth to a new home amongst the stars of the Milky Way.

“Earth is the cradle of humanity but one cannot live in the cradle forever.”

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, 1911 (Russian-born scientist and mathematician)
