This year I’ve explored different ways of trying to express my experiences of being a deaf artist, and also trying to raise awareness of deaf artists.
The work for my final studio project is a representation of how deaf people suffer in social environments. I was born deaf and have spent most of my life suppressing my deafness, so this year I realised that I wanted to express my deafness in a particular way. I want people to recognise the struggles that deaf people go through daily.
I worked with shower curtains as they represent a sense of self isolation and dissociation. I previously worked on window blinds and wanted to continue using alternative mediums.
My main artistic practice is drawing, but I stepped out of my comfort zone to work more with 3D and installation work to try and expand my artist practice.
