The idea behind my banners is to promote graffiti as a positive and creative art form, rather than it just being seen as vandalism. I’ve created a typeface using letters from all the different graffiti art pieces I have found around Christchurch. There is a big graffiti scene here which gave me the idea to create a typeface to show off the talents of the local graffiti artists. I feel that we need to be giving these artists a platform to show off their art so that more great artists can come out of the shadows and into the light. Designing this typeface has shown me that there is a lot of creativity behind every piece of graffiti and the way letter shapes are created. In the posters, I am showing off how the typeface can be used, while keeping the feel of a graffiti environment.
